Truth & Treason


Truth & Treason is a worthy story that is hampered by its obvious made for TV trappings. This film which is essentially a condensed version of a 4 part miniseries streaming now on the Angel Studios app is a film that rests on its hero’s achievements and important historical context without doing the necessary work of building character or an inner life for him or anyone else. The film centers on the final year in the life of Helmuth Hübener a 17 year old german boy who became the youngest detractor of Hitler and was ultimately executed for his noble stance. This story is important and this young man was a hero none of this is in doubt and right now especially any film that thumbs the eye of facism deserves to exist and be seen. But a worthy story does not a movie make, eventually we need to know who Helmuth was not just what he did and unfortunately Truth & Treason never quite fills us in. There is a great film to be made about this story, sadly Truth & Treason just isn’t that film. 

I Give It 2 1/2 Stars!!!
