So Bad Their Good:

Run, Tyler Perry’s Duplicity, Rosario, The Unholy Trinity, Guns & Moses, Autumn And The Black Jaguar, Marked Men: Rule + Shaw

Bad But Only Bad Enough To Mention:

Jaat, Muzzle: City Of Wolves, Afterburn, Valiant One, Thandel, Not Without Hope, Shadow Force, Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera, In Whose Name?, The Merchants Of Joy, The Ritual

Now On With The List!!!

30. The Woman In The Yard

The Babadook has a lot to answer for. Now every two bit horror filmmaker believes all they have to do is throw a mom and a supernatural allegory for trauma and mental illness together and it will automatically work, not realizing that you have to actually do something engaging or scary with it. The Woman In The Yard is ill-conceived from the jump only avoiding a higher placement on this list by Danielle Deadwyler’s efforts at bringing something to the table. Otherwise just rent Relic or The Babadook. You aren’t missing anything.

29. The Strangers: Chapter 2

Shameless cinematic wheel spinning doesn’t get much more egregious than this turgid middle chapter in Renny Harlin’s completely unnecessary franchise reboot trilogy that seems to be made solely to destroy the very thing that made the 2008 original so effective by revealing a backstory (and a lame one at that) for its titular masked trio of psycho killers who up until now had no motivation. When our heroine is attacked by a wild boar (literally almost boar’d to death) you can practically feel the filmmakers surrendering. Chapter 3 is due to be released around the time this article is being posted, so at least this nightmare is almost over.

28. Trust

This is a film that personifies the virtue of not trying to punch above your weight class. If you want to be a tawdry exploitation film, then just do it. Director Carlson Young’s film wants to have it both ways. She wants to make a thoughtful feminist story about a woman taking back her power while also having the camera practically drool over Sophie Turner’s half naked body squirming. It’s offensive and what’s worse is there is a kind of delightful buddy comedy on the margins of Trust involving Katey Segal and a cute dog. So Trust is a wash but a Loretta and Georgia the dog spinoff yeah maybe.

27. In The Lost Lands

The continuing career of Paul W.S. Anderson is a bit of a mystery to me. Some of his movies are fun for sure (i have a bit of a soft spot for Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil and Monster Hunter) but he’s never been a great filmmaker. That being said i have never out right loathed one of his films: until this one. In The Lost Lands is not a movie, it’s a shitty fantasy screensaver that has somehow been expanded to feature length. I must be honest the reason this is relatively low on the list is because quite frankly so much of this has been erased from my brain (i saw it and i think Milla Jovovich turned into a bird and fought Dave Bautista who turns into a wolf and everything looks like dirt and feces was smeared on the lens and that’s about it) and that may be the most telling thing, i saw this within the last 12 months and i barely remember it. These lands should stay lost.

26. No Address

They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, if that is true then No Address is one for the pit of hellfire. This super well intentioned but utterly inept faith based drama tries to profile the plight of the unhoused in america (a noble subject that deserves cinematic treatment no doubt) but goes about it in the most un nuanced and Lifetime Channel fashion that it becomes laughable. If you want a thoughtful look at the unhoused rent Streetwise and skip this well meaning but ill-judged mess.

25. The Alto Knights

How do you take one of our finest filmmakers, the screenwriter of Goodfellas and two Robert De Niro performances and make a mob movie this dull? i don’t know but somehow The Alto Knights does it. When the best moment in a De Niro mob thriller involves an extra running away with a shrimp cocktail you know you have lost the plot.

24. Light Of The World

There were a lot of last days of Jesus films in 2025 and a lot of animated bible movies, in the latter category this shrill pandering dreck was by far the worst. In the former well it must settle for a close second. But still this should have just been a youtube kids short.

23. Sneaks

Hey remember that fake Disney film from that Family Guy cutaway about pandering to African Americans called You Da Cow, well it actually exists except it swapped cows for sentient footwear and inexplicably roped Laurence Fishburne as not only a voice artist but producer. I have no words Sneaks was terrible.

22. Elli And Her Monster Team

This was everything wrong with children’s animation in 90 excruciating minutes, i don’t even have anything more to say this was just cheap and vapid air occasionally interrupted by shrieking voice over performances.

21. The Last Supper

Even Jesus himself would lose patience with The Last Supper pure flix’s edition to the Last days of Jesus christ 2025 movie sweepstakes. Even the actors fake facial hair looked obvious. This might have been passable as a high school play but as a movie it was dreadful.

20. The Map That Leads To You

Roger Ebert once wrote that you should never have a lead character who is insufferable in the same way you should never marry someone you can’t stand a 3 day bus ride with, both strangely apply to this obnoxious and vapid Fault In Our Stars wannabe about a woman whose vacation is hijacked by a hunky but crushingly pretentious young nomad who doesn’t own a TV and loves to wax philosophical about the meaning of life and stuff man. I wanted to tell this whole movie to get a haircut and a real job.

19. Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare

Peter Pan being a horror character is not the reason this film is here. I welcome that concept. This film is here because it’s a sadistic, oppressively dour slog occasionally interrupted by the most egregious homophobia and transphobia i have seen in some time. This is not the Neverland anybody should be following the stars to.

18. The Family Plan 2

Hey Mark Wahlberg’s daughter is dating a guy with a slightly effeminate accent who keeps calling Marky Mark “daddy” is that funny to you than you are in luck it’s the only thing approaching a joke in this misbegotten holiday action comedy sequel that is somehow even worse than it’s already bad predecessor. Marky Mark fire your agent.

17. Fountain Of Youth

How do you make a Guy Ritchie movie not fun? i don’t know but somehow Fountain Of Youth does it. I love John Krasinski but this is the first performance of his that made me want to slap his character. Just skip it.

16. The Electric State

320 Million dollars was absolutely wasted on this ugly, noisy, unfunny, soulless and heartless waste of an all star cast and promising source material. Also Mr. Peanut is one of the central characters. Need I Say More?

15. Bono: Stories Of Surrender

Bono is a great performer, Andrew Dominik is a talented filmmaker and i hope they never collaborated again if it is even close to this unwatchable masturbatory glorified TED talk on how incredible the U2 front man is. 90 Minutes felt like a lifetime.

14. Smurfs

Stick a Smurf in this Smurfing Franchise, It’s Smurfing done, Seriously Smurf this movie and Smurf James Corden and another thing Smurf Paramount for wasting John Goodman and Kurt Russell’s time. Smurf!!!

13. War 2

How do you take a seriously fun Bollywood epic swap out one of the leads with an even better actor and it sucks this bad!!! Even the explosions felt half-hearted.

12. Skillhouse

When even 50 Cent wants out of a movie he produced you know it’s awful. Someone had the idea what if Hostel but in a hype house full of influencers who can’t act and didn’t stop once to think this is a bad idea. Just baffling.

11. I Am Living Proof

This is not a movie, it’s an infomercial for snake oil that somehow played in movie theaters. If you actually buy what this guy is selling you are either desperate or really dumb.

10. Bride Hard

Hey guys you know what worked so great Die Hard and you know what else worked great Bridesmaids, so what if we combine them but make it neither exciting or funny in the slightest.

No that’s a terrible idea.

Let’s do it anyway.

9. HIM

Hey guys sports are like a cult and athletes are pushed way too hard. Repeat that first statement about a thousand times and add a disorienting amount of strobes and pseudo-A24 shots and congratulations you get this sorry attempt at a sports horror satire. Marlon Wayans performance is incredible but it’s just not enough. HIM is just garbage.

8. Hell House LLC: Lineage

Taking away the found footage element is the least of the problems of this dreadfully bad final (or is it?) chapter in a once great horror franchise. Balls have never felt bluer than they did when the lights came up at the end of this turkey.

7. House On Eden

Okay imagine the most obnoxious paranormal investigation Youtube video you have ever watched. Now expand it to 80 minutes and somehow convince IFC/Shudder to release it in theaters and you will find something like House On Eden. When the poster has better production value and scares than the actual movie you know you have a turkey.

6. Juliet & Romeo

From the makers of the worst music biopic ever made Spinning Gold comes this bizarre and terrible but not in a fun way pop musical take on Shakespeare’s tragedy that makes Camp Rock look like Hair. What do these filmmakers have on Jason Isaacs to convince him to appear in both of these terrible films.

5. Anemone

Why did the great Daniel Day-Lewis return to acting for the first time in nearly a decade just to sit around a cabin and sneer at Sean Bean for over two hours while delivering a lengthy monologue about shitting on a predatory priest. This is a film about nothing for no one.

4. Last Days

Hey remember that idiot missionary who bothered an indigenous tribe and was killed in the process, well let’s take a documentary that rightly called him on his nonsense and make it into a biopic that portrays him as a noble young man simply serving god deserving of martyr status. Give me a break. Justin Lin what happened bro.

3. Five Nights At Freddy’s 2

This wasn’t a movie this was a two hour trailer for another film that hasn’t been made yet. This is easter eggs and jump scares bookended by random scenes that never seem to connect to each other or any narrative. In its own stupid way it’s one of the most cynical films i have ever seen. Oh and also it wasted Matthew Lillard. For Shame.

2. After The Hunt

Luca Guadagnino is one of the finest filmmakers we have and i don’t know why he or his incredible cast came within any distance of After The Hunt. An offensive and deeply tone deaf film that says nothing about sexual assault in the world of academia and spends 137 minutes saying that nothing. When it essentially implies that the victim shouldn’t be believed because of another character lying about a similar attack i wanted to throw my popcorn at the screen.

1. The Unbreakable Boy

Zachary Levi, the former promising actor turned crazed conspiracy nutcase made three films this year. Two were bad but his first cinematic offering was something else entirely. The Unbreakable Boy is an utterly loathsome attempt to mask rhetoric and messaging that has resulted in neurodivergent people being villainized, bullied and killed under the guise of warmhearted family uplift, Starring and produced by a man (Levi) whose stance on medical science is actively threatening the lives of the very people his film claims to be celebrating. The Unbreakable Boy is the worst film of 2025 for not being merely bad but also being truly offensive.

Stay Tuned For Part 1 Of The Best Films Of 2025!!!
