Christy


Christy isn’t really a sports biopic but a much darker and bleaker affair. The film centers on real life female boxer Christy Martin (Sydney Sweeney in an oscar worthy career best turn) and her battles both in the ring and in her domestic life dealing with her sexuality, bigoted puritanical mother and particularly her monstrous husband Jim (Ben Foster, also quite strong here) as she struggles to find happiness and boxing glory. Christy is a truly harrowing film with an extended third act sequence that is genuinely stomach-turningly sadistic, but ultimately it’s a very good film with a truly spectacular lead performance. Christy is worth getting in the ring with if you can stomach its harsh blows. 

I Give It 4 1/2 Stars!!!
