Dude

Dude is an interesting film, strange but interesting, this Indian romcom/social drama/soap opera/action-thriller is a sometimes overstuffed hybrid but i had a blast seeing what it would throw at me next. The film follows an internet prankster who doesn’t realize he truly loves his childhood friend until he rejects her and finds out she is in love with someone else, the only problem: he convinced her father to allow him to marry her. From there things take a slightly darker turn becoming a surprisingly thoughtful meditation on violent bigotry and the changing gender norms in modern India. But through it all this is generally an energetic comedy and sometimes the dramatic elements threaten to dynamite the tone, but thanks to the charming leads and a shockingly sinister antagonist Dude is a refreshingly unpredictable genre mashup.
