Roofman

 Roofman is proof of the old statement “the truth is stranger than fiction” and that makes it undeniably compelling what makes the film more so is a delightful sense of character and place. The film about a veteran turned robber imprisoned after robbing 45 McDonalds’ who then escapes and proceeds to hideout in a Toys R Us in Charlotte, NC and then forms a romantic bond with one of the stores employees is a story that is so unlikely you keep having to remind yourself it really happened. Director Derek Cianfrance is brilliant at capturing complex characters who are fighting for happiness but can’t get out of there own way and while Roofman is definitely a less gloomy and gritty effort from this filmmaker it carries over that common theme. It helps immensely that the romantic leads are Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst two movie stars with charisma and chemistry to spare. Roofman is a real winner.
