Steve

 Steve is a small gem buried in the Netflix algorithm, this drama about a particularly eventful and intense day in the life of the students and staff of an english private school for troubled boys is a film that could have felt increasingly stagey and performative and never does. The key to this is two particular lead performances Cillian Murphy as the titular teacher and newcomer Jay Lycurgo as Shy a pupil of Steve’s that is heading to a downward spiral. They both singlehandedly make this film go from good to great. Some minor quibbles here and there, the tone can sometimes be inconsistent and the one day conceit begins to strain believability by simply how much happens. But overall Steve is a powerful raw drama that i highly recommend.
