The Strangers: Chapter 2

 The Strangers: Chapter 2 is a film that i believe even its makers think is pointless, by the time our heroine is nearly killed by a CGI wild boar (yes folks she was literally almost boar’d to death) i threw up my hands and said forget it, if you aren’t gonna try why the hell should i. This film which picks up immediately following last year’s Chapter 1 finds lone survivor Maya (Madelaine Petsch who deserves so much better than this slapdash reboot trilogy) recovering in the hospital and mourning the death of her beloved fiancé only to find those pesky strangers aren’t done with there little murder game. What follows is the most blatant example of middle installment wheel spinning i have maybe ever seen. This is 7 minutes longer than its predecessor and yet somehow accomplishes absolutely nothing with one big exception: a backstory for the titular killers. One of the most effective elements of the original 2008 The Strangers is that this was a random inexplicable attack with no explanation needed other than these are killers, they like killing and they choose this house for no reason other than people were in it, take that away and these title villains not only cease being interesting but cease being frightening too. Chapter 3 is in the can and due for release probably next year, maybe this will be the one that makes this overextended nonsense worthwhile but much like the possibility that Tamara will actually be there, don’t hold your breath.
